Friday, July 15, 2005 The Higher Jethro I know it's been awhile, yes. But I am not gone, I am just away. Cranking away on that book proposal, which, if you're good and eat all your green and yellow vegetables, you may get to take a look at Real Soon Now. Meanwhile, I couldn't resist sharing this. The book is Jung's Map of the Soul, which I opened randomly in Border's last week, having a few minutes to kill on the way to an appointment. The page I opened to, and the bit that caught my eye, was on p. 163 -- reproduced here for your edification and wonderment... The back cover says: "Earlier surveys of Jung's ideas have been difficult to follow, or have lacked unity." As you can see from the above, there'll be no such problems of obfuscation here! Broadcast from 1962-71, The Beverly Hillbillies² was an immediate hit and remained one of the most popular comedy shows on television for most of its run. Family patriarch and widower Jed Clampett (Buddy Ebsen) famously struck oil while shooting at a raccoon during the show¹s title sequence and blue grass theme song, then relocated his newly-rich family and country ways to the stuffy confines of Beverly Hills. Here, he poses with daughter Elly May (Donna Douglas), mother-in-law Granny (Irene Ryan) and cousin Jethro Bodine (Max Baer, Jr.). 12:53 AM | link | |
