no more evil santa
I return to good clean living
Since our last installment here, I've been out in sunny California. Apologies to the folks I couldn't meet with (or in some cases even get back to); it was pretty busy at Krugle, where I was visiting. For one thing, Krugle CEO Steve Larsen was kind enough to set up an appointment with a local barbershop. I've been thinking about doing this for years -- especially every time I see some aging hippie with a pony tail (which here in Boulder is all too often). Last time I cut my hair was the day before I went to work at IBM in 1985. One big snip and 11 years worth of pent-up rage hit the floor like a doomed wharf rat. Took a lot of courage, but I'm glad I did it. I look so much younger and I know all the chicks are gonna go nuts when they see me now!

Selene, my just-turned-16 daughter, snapped that yesterday, along with the rest of these. I knew I shouldn't have bought her that megapixel camera. It's not very forgiving. Here's one in color where I look less French-existentialist dissolute and more just plain stupid. But I ask you: is this a great haircut or what?

However, looks can deceive. It would be a serious mistake to suppose me incapable of thinking deeply on profound and divers matters -- even though there were no divers in evidence in the vicinity of this landlocked Longmont Starbucks.

Still, the dangers of megapixel digital photography cannot be overemphasized. Clearly, that barber's attention to detail left something to be desired...

Fortunately, not all the shots came out entirely weird. Here's one of Father and Daughter after Sunday brunch. That's Selene with the heart-shaped diamond pendant. I'm the one sucking down a much needed double iced espresso after waking before noon.

In this next shot, you may well wonder what's going on. That's because you can't really see what Selene is holding...

I guess I have to admit that genetics actually does count for something and, as they say, the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. Because yes: that's my lovely daughter attempting to set her hair on fire.

Fortunately, I was able to restrain her darker impulses in the nick of time -- greatly assisted by a Richter 9.2 earthquake that hit just as she snapped this last one...

Until a minute ago, I had no photos. I still have no photos to speak of. I don't even have a camera. But all these people were linking to "my photos." It was embarassing. It's still embarassing. But I'm used to that.
