Wednesday, November 07, 2007 quit stealing my grafix (or else!) I used this image in a post on Mystic Bourgeoisie back in August, 2005. It's a book I really like and got quite a lot out of, so I was more than a little chagrined to see my graphic being pulled, bandwidth and all, by the following site... It might not have been so bad had my graphic not been used to illustrate a truly dumb review of Cushman's brilliant book. For instance, check out this bit......he describes -- in marked detail and prolonged length -- the popularity of negro minstrely [sic], the coercion of policies towards American Indians, Protestant revivalism and its demonization of atheism. While he writes about this in great detail for nearly a third of the book, he draws simple and what he supposes are straightforward conclusions that these phenomena served a deep psychologic purpose of inflating the self-esteem of the oppressors. OK, not clearly shown but not a stretch. He ignores other political or economic factors that may have influenced these trends (eg, the Indians had all the land).OMFG! The Indians had all the land! Clearly, they were just begging for some serious oppression. I dunno. Call me crazy, I guess. 3:27 PM | link | |
