Tuesday, October 12, 2004 what was it like out on the ice? hard to say I haven't ever much liked the "Self Psychology" formulated by Heinz Kohut, and I think it's had seriously negative consequences for a culture that's largely never heard of him, but has been affected (infected?) nonetheless by some of his ideas about narcissism. However, this book -- Releasing the Self: The Healing Legacy of Heinz Kohut -- looks extremely interesting in that it recasts Kohut's project in relation to other schools of psychoanalytic thought that were emerging around the same time. Kohut's major work appeared in the 1970s.
